Volleyball Association of Malawi (VAM) conducted a Referee Development Training in Lilongwe from 7 to 13 October 2024. The President of VAM, James Kaunda said the course was organized to build capacity for volleyball referees in the country.
“It is important to equip participants with skills in modern refereeing and the course is funded by the international volleyball Federation (FVB). We have an empowerment programme with FVB. It is a very important course because we were looking at the development of the Game. Referees are key to the growth of the Game in any sport discipline. It is important that our refs are at par with all countries in relation to the rules of the Game.’’
The Course facilitator Sandy Still from Scotland said the course was part of FVB vision aimed at ensuring that African countries have similar courses so that they are delivering consistent knowledge content and other aspect of refereeing.
“After this course, participants have high level skills and become trainers. We want to develop a scheme of advancement so that it becomes a career structure. It will raise the profiles of the participants as they will develop a whole range of skills,’’ he said.
