Confectionary and Beverage Manufacturer Universal Industries Limited, has donated assorted products to the Commonwealth Games Malawi (CGA) for the Birmingham 2022 Queens Baton Relay in the Country from 16th to 19th November 2021.
The Activity is similar to the Olympic torch relay is organized before the beginning of Commonwealth Games. The Baton Relay’s International route spans 265 days with visits to all 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth.
The Baton will arrive in the Country on November 16 and leave four days later. Presenting the donation, comprising biscuit, bottled water and energy drinks valued at K1 Million in Lilongwe on Monday, Universal Industries national sales and Marketing Manager Frank Bunauli said the Company made the donation because it supports sports.
“As the organizers will be moving around with the Baton, they will need water and we have also donated Juices so that those on the tour can refresh.”

The Baton relay’s local Organising Committee Chair representative Mary Waya thanked Universal Industries for the support which she said has helped lessen the logistical challenges. The Netball Legend said that during its four days, the Baton will be taken to a number of places in the Southern Region.
“Its local route includes Ndirande, Mulanje and Thyolo. We want everyone out there to have a feel of it.”

Nations and territory will host events and activities that showcase untold stories from Baton bearers, athletes and young people who are striving for change in their community, as well as showcasing a project that address one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Goals reads in part the Baton Relay’s Programme on www.birmingham2022.com.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games will run from July 28 to August 8 in United Kingdom City. Malawi’s delegation will include netball team and athletes. By Clement Chinoko
