In a bid to promote sports development and inclusivity in Malawi, the Norwegian Sports Confederation (Norges IdrettsForbund, NIF) has embarked on a partnership tour with the Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC).

Rune Arctander, Director of International Relations at NIF, emphasized the importance of partnerships in promoting sports for development.

“We believe that sport has the power to transform lives and communities. Our partnership with MOC is crucial in ensuring that sports programs in Malawi are safe, equitable, and inclusive.”

Malawi Olympic Committee President, Hon. Jappie Mhango, hailed the partnership as a game-changer for sports development in the country.

“The NIF partnership has been instrumental in helping us improve our governance tools and service delivery. We’re grateful for their support and look forward to continued collaboration,” said Mhango.

The tour, which included meetings with key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Judo Association of Malawi and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), aimed to strengthen ties and explore opportunities for collaboration.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports through the Director of Sports Mr. Jameson Ndalama, has commended NIF for the partnership program, an initiative that has proven instrumental in empowering marginalised communities to participate in sports, fostering inclusivity and social change.

“The partnership has reached its half way mark and we are thrilled to see significant progress. This milestone fills us with hope as stakeholders and athletes as we collectively strive to develop sports in Malawi,” said Ndalama.

The partnership between NIF and MOC, which began in 2023, is set to run until 2027. The initiative aims to create a strong, sustainable and safe sports in Malawi.
