Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) is conducting a three-day administration workshop in Karonga from 8 to 10 March 2021 and Rumphi District from 9 to 11 March 2021. MOC is committed to promoting and developing sports in all corners of the country hence the course.

“We want to reach every district and train sports administrators so that sports can be run in a professional setup. The overall result is to develop sports and nurture good athletes to represent the country well in regional, continental and global competitions.”

Said the MOC Treasure General- Mr. H Sakala

50 Participants, 25 from each district were drawn from sports disciplines are taking part in the course which is being facilitated by Mr. Mark Tembo and Mrs. Mary Kalirani in Karonga and Mr. George Jana and Mr. Ken Mphande in Rumphi District. This course has club owners from Sports Teachers from Malawi School Sports (MASSA), Football, Netball, Volleyball, and other government institutions.

”We want the Participants to learn sports science as well as genesis and philosophy of the Olympic Sports. They will also be trained in financial management, sustainability, doping, harassment, and dangers of game-fixing for financial gain and many aspects of sports management. It is a complete course despite few days allocates.”

The District Education Sports Officer said that ”This Course will go along way in changing the perception of sports Administrators, it is an eye opener. We have situations where by the owner of the club will also shoulder the role of a coach, a team manager at the same time. There are so many issues that people don’t know in relation to sports management”.

The District Education Officer in Karonga added that” Karonga is a broader District with good sports Administrators we can represent the country well in tournaments against Tanzania opponents, we are grateful to MOC for reaching us”.
