Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) has pledged a K1.5 million to any athlete who qualifies for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
President Jappie Mhango said, on Friday 12th March 2021 in Lilongwe when the Organization gave K150,000.00 to athletes for their outstanding performance in the preliminary Olympic qualifiers in Zambia including their Coach Pachisi Nyasulu. Lifa and Simwaka are close to meeting the qualifying standards for the Games who are short distance runners. Stern Lifa competed in 100m event who won Gold in Zambia and Simwaka came third in 400m. Gift Kawale, Mercy Malembo did their personal best.
“If any of you can attain qualification time we will give you MK 1.5 million each. This offer is aimed at motivating you to work hard and do well’’.

During the Zambia qualifiers, Lifa broke his 100 meters personal best while Simwaka broke the 400 meters’ national record. Setting them up for the final qualifiers in Botswana next month. Mhango Said the K1.5 million offer also extends to Judo, and other sporting disciplines. Meanwhile, Liffa is hopeful that they will qualify for the Olympic Games following support from MOC.
