With support from Olympic Solidarity Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) continues to provide unique opportunity to Sports Administrators of National Sports Federations, and Organizations responsible for the development of Sport in Malawi.
The Advanced Sport Management Course commenced on 25th August, 2023 at Malawi Olympic Committee Offices in Lilongwe with a total of 21 participants from different Sports Organisation across the country.
Speaking during orientation MOC President Hon. Jappie Mhango said that by the end of the course the participants will be provided with all sorts of skills in as far as sports management is concerned.
“The way the course is designed it is intended to provide all sorts of skills to the administrators, as it consist of 6 modules; Organising an Olympic Sport Organisation, Managing Strategically, Managing Human Resources, Managing Finance, Managing Marketing, Organising a Major Sport Event and if you have got all these modules crafted together, they will help in molding accomplished sports administrator who will be able to lead by example.” Said Hon. Mhango.
Dr. Michael Sepula a lecturer from Mzuzu University who is also one of the Programme Directors for Advance Sports Management Program appealed to the participants to utilize the chance given. He further said that, the time has come to professionalize Sports Industry.
“Sports is becoming a very well recognized industry world wide and therefore, the time has come to professionalize it. Once upon a time we used to do things haphazardly without following any procedures as far as sports is concerned. And therefore, this training program is very crucial to ensuring that we bring all the people that are responsible for running the affairs of sports” said Dr. Sepula.
One of the participants Prisca Maloya who is a Lawn Tennis Coach said that, the knowledge that they will get will help to improve Sports in Malawi.
“As a participant I welcome this Course with open hands and I believe that its very important to the improvement of our sports in Malawi in different Sports Organization because the knowledge that will get here will be able to impart it to our sports organizations” said Maloya.
This is the 6th Cohort the Course will run for a period of six months.
