By Mphatso Malidadi- (The Daily Time) Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) President Jappie Mhango has been named in the six-member committee for the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Games slated for Accra, Ghana, next year.

The African Games, formally known as the All-African Games or the Pan Africa Games are continental mult-sport event held every four years, organized by the African Union (AU) with Anoca and Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC).

MOC Director Naomie Chinatu confirmed that Mhango will be part of the commission to run next year’s Games

“As you may recall Hon. Jappie Mhango President of MOC, was in May this year 2023 appointed as a Member of Games Commission of ANOCA.

It has pleased the ANOCAs Presidents Mustapha BERRAF to appoint him to be part of 13th African Games Organising Committee which Accra Ghana is hosting from 8th to 23rd March 2024,” she said.

Chinatu said Mhango’s appointment was good for Malawi.

“It means as a country we are being recognized by the abundant skills we have said and, as Malawi (MOC), it means that we are making steady progress on the continent, hence the appointment of our leader,” she said.

Mhango said he was humbled to be to be part of African Games Organising commission.

“This is Obviously a huge honour to the country, MOC as an organisation and indeed, me as an individual as it is recognizing the contributions that I am making to the development of sport not only in Malawi but Africa as a whole. Therefore, it is humbling to be part of the team that will oversee the Games” he said.
