Olympic Solidarity and Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) have joined hands to provide a unique opportunity for the National Olympic Committee, National Sports Federations, and Organizations responsible for the development of Olympic Sport in Malawi, an advanced Sport Management Course that will enable executive level volunteers and paid staff at Olympic Sport Organizations to broaden their managerial skills while actively contributing to a unique learning community. By developing and presenting case studies, sharing experiences, and studying the material contained in a specially written book, course participants will be exposed to effective management of sports at all levels including Olympic sport as a whole in Malawi.

Advanced Sport Management Course consists of six carefully selected and written modules by international sports experts covering the following topics:

  • Organising an Olympic Sport Organisation
  • Managing Strategically
  • Managing Human Resources
  • Managing Finance
  • Managing Marketing
  • Organising a Major Sport Event

The course will be conducted over a six-month period beginning September, 2021. In total, there will be six face to face contact sessions of two days duration at a conveniently chosen venue. Thus 12 days will be fully devoted to in- class work, involving a general presentation by experts and discussion of each chapter and presentation of case studies, and 18 days in each month will be devoted to distance learning, which involves reading the Managing Olympic Sport Organizations chapter and completing case studies.

This will be an intensive course and as such, participants must be high level individuals in decision making capacities in their organizations. The material of the course is modeled on MEMOS (Executive Masters in Sport Organizations Management) throughout the world and represents a balance of sport management theory and practical examples, providing a rich and extensive database of applied material. By using this material, the participants should be able to identify what is and not appropriate for their organizations and learn how to specifically apply the information to improve sports organization and management in Malawi.

For this course, only 14 spaces are available for the NOC organizations and 6 from other stakeholders. The NOC chapter of Malawi will sponsor their candidates whereas the other 6 will have to seek sponsorship from their organizations.

Participants must attend 100% of the sessions for all six modules to be eligible to earn a highly prestigious Advanced Professional Certificate issued by International Olympic Committee, which will allow the individual to be recognized as a sports manager anywhere in the world.
