Four athletes left the country on 3rd March 2021 for Lusaka, Zambia to take part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers event on Saturday 6 March 2021 at Heroes Stadium.
”The Athletes are Stern Lifa, Gift Kawale, Mercy Malembo and Asimenye Simwaka. The Zambia Athletics Association invited Malawi to compete in the All Comers Tournament, which will also Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers”
Said MOC General Secretary, Captain John Kaputa (Rtd).
Lifa and Kawale will compete in short distance sprinting 100 and 200metre events. Asimenye will compete in a short distance – 200m and middle distance 400m while Mercy will compete in 1500 and 3000 meters.
The team traveled by Road led by James Mangani as team Manager and Coach Pachisi Nyasulu.
All athletes are in good shape, ”they have been working hard since the beginning of their camp training in February 2021, the team participated in a tournament in November 2020 which showed they were in good shape. We worked on speed, endurance and fitness preparing them for competitions”.
