Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) has appointed Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) President Oscar Kanjala as Commissioner of Youth Games to be held in Lesotho in 2022.

Kanjala will coordinate preparations for the games between member countries local organizing committee and ANOCA,

In an interview on Tuesday, he said the appointment is an honour for the country.

“It is a pride for the country that a Malawian has been appointed as commissioner for the youth games. I will be the link with ANOCA, host country (Lesotho) and member countries to provide advise and guidance about the games,” he said.

Kanjala also said his appointment showed that the continental Olympic Games governing body is impressed with his performance after being engaged on three previous competitions.

“They are drawing from my experience in Africa Games in Morocco, Africa Youth Games in Algeria and inaugural beach games in Cape Verde,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kanjala is is Lesotho attending a meeting which will also draw ministers from member countries, including Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Francis Phiso.
