The Malawi Team to Paris 2024 Olympic Games is expected to arrive home tomorrow 7 August at 12:50 from France in the middle of the Games, leader of delegation (chief de mission), Naomi Chinatu has said.
The 2024 Olympics, which officially started on 26 July, will end on August 11. Traditionally, Olympic Games used to accommodate athletes and officials on the entourage up to the end of the world’s greatest sports to participate in the glamorous closing ceremonies.
However, Chinatu, who is also Malawi Olympic Committee director general did not give finer details about the early departure.
” We are not attending the closing ceremony. We are coming home. We finished our race on 3 August and we had two days to rest. We are free to leave any day. Some countries already left.” she said.
The delegation comprised athlete Asimenye Simwaka who competed in 100m with 11.78 in her preliminaries. She raced to position 8 with 11:91 in the second round and did not qualify to the other round, she also sustained a hamstring injury according to her coach.
Swimmers Tayamika Chang’anamuno came in position 7 with 29.32 and Felipe Gomes in 50m swimming freestyle with 24.11 in position 8 in their heats were both of them could not go beyond preliminaries.
