Malawi Olympic Committee held an elective general assembly at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel on 17th February 2024. MOC president Jappie Mhango addressed all delegates and guests giving a picture on how the organisation has performed in the past four years.Mhango has asked affiliates to make changes to their constitution by among others, abolishing the post of general secretary and instead employing a full-time chief executive officer. He has also asked that there should be term limits for the leadership of the organisation instead of open terms. Mhango has further recommended to delegates to consider adding four more positions on the MOC board.The re-elected Malawi Olympic Committee president Jappie Mhango has promised to work towards empowering athletes and building capacity for associations both academic qualifications and technical expertise.
“We will work to ensure our athletes get the best training through sending them outside the country to access better facilities and skills. We are geared to ensure our athletes qualify for the Paris 2024 Games.Qualification games are still ongoing and we are being represented. We also promise to grow MOC so that it can be well represented. We plan to have a full-time chief executive officer and also make sure our marketing department is vibrant.”

Director in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Jameson Ndalama has commended MOC for a peaceful election and also living up to the dictates of its own constitution.
“Elections and assemblies are part of the requirements in the constitution and you have observed that. I also commend MOC for good accountability of finances as per the audit report. The corporate world will only come in if they are convinced that their money will be used for the intended purpose and also will be accounted for. As government we are ready to continue working together with MOC to develop sports in the country.”
