Malawi Olympafrica commemorates the O! YES, DAY FESTIVAL on 29 July, 2023 at Malawi Olympafrica Center in Lilongwe.
The O! YES, program is an Olympafrica program aimed at promoting the social development of young athletes. O! YES Program started in November, 2022. The event was spiced up by different games including Football, Basketball, Athletics Expressive Arts and Cultural Dances, the participants were from National Sports Federations, Olympafrica Center Sporting Clubs, students from schools surrounding Olympafrica Center. In attendance was the International Olympafrica Foundation Program Manager Ms. Marieme Ly Coumba.
Speaking in an interview, the Secretary General of Malawi Olympic Committee Captain John Kaputa (Rtd) said that Malawi has bright future through this O! YES Programme.
“The country has a future, if you look at the boys and girls who have played football, under 10 years you will see that, there is in-born talent. If you see those who are doing walking race competition is very fantastic.” said Kaputa.
On her part, Mariene Ly Coumba said, she is very happy to be part of celebration and she congratulated the center director Mr. James Mangani and the Volunteer.
“I am really happy to see that, this is the finale day for O! YES Programme. Most of it (the project) is based on Education empowerment, we combine sport and education throughout the values of this Programme to educate kids to have a positive change of behavior and positive attitude in older to build a better society.
Everything is being well done, congratulations to James Mangani and all the Volunteers.” Marieme expressed her gratitude.
The O! YES Programme was a six months Programme with Athletics, Basketball and football and with two workshops based on Sustainability and Inclusion workshops.
