Malawi’s flag carrier at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics athlete Asimenye Simwaka says she is looking forward to her debut at the completion. The short distance runner will compete in 100metres (m) race on Friday 30th. Though participating on solidarity after failing to qualify, Simwaka said she is aiming for gold.

The athlete runs 400m and 200m category, but has switched to 100m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after being advised. The year 2021 has seen Simwaka winning gold medal at three international Competitions to earn a place at the Olympic Games. She qualifies for the 2021 Africa Championship after a sterling performance at the All Comers Track and Field event in April in Zambia. Simwaka followed this up with another gold in 400m in Lusaka, Zambia.

The athlete clocked 52.57 seconds beating her personal record of 52.58 seconds. She however, missed the Olympic Qualifying time of 52.35 seconds.
